The Power of the Radio

On October 30, 1938, thousands of Americans fled their homes as a radio broadcast of an alien invasion went on. Later they realized that there hadn’t been any invasion. What they had heard was a broadcast of George Orwell’s “The War of the Worlds” during a Halloween special show. People who tuned in the show after it had been introduced had no idea what they were listening to and, in a pre-war environment, the news of an invasion spread like wildfire. That is the power of the radio. Radio gets to places where phone and tv signal can’t reach. It is still the way of communication used for emergencies because it is so reliable. And now, we have the opportunity to learn about it right here in school! Through the ITJ radio station we can share what we do here with the whole world! So stay tuned! And don’t panic if you hear about an alien invasion… It is probably not true…
