The Thomas Jefferson Model of the United Nations, abbreviatedTJMUN, is a student simulation of the United Nations which takes place at the beginning of December each year. This year the Instituto Thomas Jefferson is celebrating its sixth anniversary. The event, which took place between December 6th and 8th, is a very good exercise for students to make them aware of the real world and real problems that the UN member states face. On this occasion 14 colleges participated with 10 committees and 260 delegates. The committees were Disarmament, ECOSOC, General Assembly, Human Rights, INTERPOL, Security Council, UNICEF 1,2 3 and WHO. The event was a success with 360 students participating.
We all have different kinds of friends. Some are funny, some like music, and some like to talk a lot. But we all need a quiet friend. A friend that will let us think and find our own opinions.
Charles William Eliot once said that “Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” We couldn’t agree more and we are incredibly happy because we now have many new quiet friends! And we are sure we will learn a lot from each one of them.
This 12th of November we had a day trip with the kids from 9th to 12th grade. We visited a kind of cottage where the kids had the chance to get to know each other between grades during different activities such as Blind-Soccer, Foam-Gladiators, Human pyramid, among others.
The objective was to involve the kids with each other and give them a workshop of teamwork, responsibility and decision making based on the school values, so they could know on what basis we work with our High school kids.
It was a great chance to exemplify why attitude is either a huge ally or foe.
