Talent Show ¡mamás!

Not Just a Game

This bimester  us, 1st and 3rd graders, finished our projects with giant challenge games.  They might have looked as simple entertainment but, for us, they were a lot more than that. The challenges we were faced with were related to everything we had studied during the bimester. They required concentration, good memory, and the skill of being able to solve a problem under pressure. Because that is the whole point of PBL, to help us develop skills that will stay with us for the rest of our lives and that will come to our aid when we need them the most. Teamwork, collaboration and self-confidence played a crucial part in this project and the only way of acquiring these is through projects that simulate reality. What is great about PBL is that it feels like a game, it looks like a game but it is not just a game. It is a window into the future and, from what we have seen, the future is promising, and interesting and yes, fun.

Migration Stories

They say home is where the heart is, but what happens when your heart is somewhere else? Or when it is in many different places? This bimester, in 4th grade, we had the beautiful opportunity to look into the lives of people that have migrated to different countries for different reasons. Some to work, some to have a new experience, some to study, some by choice and some by force of need, but they all left home to make a home somewhere else. What did we learn from them? That life is full of surprises, adventure and risks and that you can be happy anywhere you go and learn to respect people that are different to you. Thank you for making the time in your schedule to come and talk to us!

Model United Nations

Model United Nations San Antonio conference has been a worthwhile experience, for our students acquired ideas and knowledge. It is one of the largest high-school conferences in the United States in which around 800 diverse, enthusiastic and passionate delegates, travelled from schools across international and state borders, venturing into weary sessions to find creative solutions to challenging problems.

After all the hard work, we are very pleased to share that amongst 800 delegates and nearly 30 schools; Thomas Jefferson Institute was awarded a special distinction as the ‘Best Small Delegation Award’, and congratulated for their students’ superb performance. Congratulations to our four students who brought an award home!

Welcome Back Gala 2014
