As you can imagine, PBL is back! As part of this bimester’s project, the students of 4th grade have hosted many experts in their project “Being Blind and Deaf.” Deaf university students and a deaf engineer and students from the School for the Blind were amongst our visitors and, as it turns out, their lives are very similar to ours! They have friends (and boyfriends and girlfriends), go to parties, go to school, read, write and play sports like everyone else. Of course they need some special devices like balls with bells inside and they have to learn a special language (sign language or braille), but they enjoy exactly the same things that we do. So maybe we feel that they are different because we treat them differently. Maybe if we treat them with the same respect and consideration we do everyone else, there won’t be a difference. After all, are we really that different?
Last summer our wonderful team of teachers attended our development and training course to reinforce our educational model based on four main elements: human, digital, academic and entrepreneurism. They were learning our institutional philosophy and values, how to lead professional and personal projects, received a certification from the Buck Institute of Education in using Project Based Learning (PBL) methodology and also how to use different technology tools from Google Education. All this with just one purpose: to offer the best education to our ITJ students. We are so ready to have a successful 2013 – 2014 school year!!!
